How Often Do You Reach Your Goals?

Do you ever find yourself setting goals, but then a few weeks or months down the line you have not reached them or simply lost sight of them?  Do you ever wonder why that is?

I was reading on Forbes.com that people who actually write down their goals are more likely to achieve them than those who just have them in their mind.  I personally believe that has to do with you seeing this benchmark that you have set in front of you and if you look at it daily you are more likely to hold yourself accountable to it.  No one wants to feel as though they have failed something they have set out to do.  But if we don’t keep it in front of us at all times, how can we (or anyone else) hold ourselves accountable to reaching it?

Being that today marks National Women’s Health & Fitness Day (the last Wednesday in September, each year), I have written down some short term goals for myself.  I want to set them at different periods of time so that I can hone in on them and feel accomplished as I knock them out one by one.

When you are thinking about setting your goals, make sure that you are setting complete goals.  What do I mean by that… 1) Is the goal measurable?  2) If it is a long term goal, set benchmarks to encourage you on the progress you are making along the way to your ultimate goal. 3) What is your reward?

Now the last one is a big one in my mind.  You want to make it so that you relate your achievements with not only the visions of hard work, but also the reward that came from it.  So have a reward in mind that is more than just achieving your goal.

Goooooooooooaaaaaaaalllllllll!

Goooooooooooaaaaaaaalllllllll!

So what are my rewards you might ask? For completing goal my goals, (this may be TMI) I am going to go out and buy myself 3 new bras.  Silly you might think but for me, it is one of those things that I put on the VERY bottom of the list.  We have to reward ourselves with something that will remind us how far we have come.  This for me will be a happy daily reminder.

What are your goals?

Do need help setting them and reaching them?

What will your reward be?

This is a great idea. I agree that seeing our goals daily definitely helps. But bra shopping as a reward? I dunno about that…lol. Bra shopping is the WORST. lol Always at the bottom of my list, too.
